shireen jinnah colony (2016)

Amidst the industrial hum of Karachi's coastal belt, tucked away among the oil terminals, lies Shireen Jinnah Colony. ‘Shireen Jinnah Colony’ is a collection of photographs from my most recent trip to my homeland of Pakistan – a profoundly transformative experience. As a child of diaspora, I had always felt a disconnect to the land of my ancestors; however, during this trip, I befriended a woman working as my uncle’s maid, who invited me to visit her neighbourhood in the district of Shireen Jinnah Colony. These photographs serve as a testament to the warmth of its people; elders, mothers, fathers, and their children, bound together by a shared sense of community, survival, contentment, and resilience.
